WHO/Europe International Conference on Cardiovascular Diseases in St.Petersburg, 19-20 November 2015

WHO/Europe International Conference on Cardiovascular Diseases started in St.Petersburg in Almazov Federal North-West Medical Research Centre on November 19-20. Organizer of the conference is the WHO Regional Office for Europe. Leading world experts in CVD, preventive medicine and NCD participated in the meeting.

Director of the Division of Noncommunicable Diseases and Promoting Health through the Life-course Dr. Gauden Galea made a welcoming speech on behalf of the WHO Regional Office for Europe.

President of the RSC and general director of the Almazov Centre Prof. Evgeny Shlyakhto greeted participants on behalf of the Russian Society of Cardiology.
Prof. David Leon (UK) reported on the main tendencies of CVD in WHO European region.
Prof. Pekka Puska (Finland), President of the World Heart Federation and Vice-President of the International Association of Public Health Institutes, made a presentation "The contribution of cardiovascular disease
prevention and control to achieving the global targets on NCD: implications for Europe".

Prof. Sergey Boytsov, RSC vice-president, director of the National Research Centre for Preventive Medicine, Russian Federation and director of the WHO Collaborating Centre on Development and Implementation of Noncommunicable Disease Prevention Policy and Programs, presented on "Trends, challenges and issues in cardiovascular disease prevention and control in Russia".
