24th annual congress on arterial hypertension and cardiovascular prevention organized by European Society of Hypertension (ESH) and International Society of Hypertension (ISH).

June 13-16, 2014 in Athens, Greece took place 24^th annual congress on arterial hypertension and cardiovascular prevention organized by European Society of Hypertension (ESH) and  International Society of Hypertension (ISH). Delegates from 87 countries visited the congress. Federal Almazov Medical Research Centre was presented by delegation led by Professor Alexandra Konradi and Professor Alexander Nedoshivin.

Record 2303 abstracts were received by Organizing Committee, 1860 of it were approved for 46 poster sessions. Russian scientists from Novosibirsk, Penza, Kazan, Ufa, Saint-Petersburg, Moscow, Perm and other cities made 214 poster presentations, 18 of which by Almazov Centre collective. It should и noted that Professors Elena Baranova, Alexandra Konradi and Alexander Nedoshivin were chairmen of poster sessions.

Scientific programme included more than 70 scientific sessions dedicated to solving different aspects of arterial hypertension. Professor Konradi with Professor K. Kario (Japan) led session on cerebrovascular pathology and cognitive dysfunction.

Later she made an oral presentaion «Hypertension prevalence and control in Russia: an up-date from new Russian epidemiology survey ESSE-RF».

It should be stated that amount of oral presentations by Russian speakers increased. Besides Professor Konradi there were several excellent oral presentations. Professor Baranova reported results of retrospective analysis of the causes of atrial fibrillation, chief cardiologist of Russian ministry of Health Professor Irina Chazova (Moscow) talked on several epidemiological aspects of cardiovascular risks in East Europe and Russia. Doctors Drapkina, Nebieridze, Agapova from Moscow, Pekarskiy (Tomsk), Professor Tarlovskaya (Kirov) made their reports. Doctor Panov from Novosibirsk presented results of long-term prospective research MONICA (led by Professor Gafarov)

Doctor Natalia Avdonina (Almazov Centre) took part in the contect on the best poster presentation by ISH New Investigator Committee. 

And Doctor Lyudmila Korostovtseva participated in the competitive session ISH Austin Doyle award with oral report «The prognostic role of non-dipping blood pressure profile in sleep». 

The last plenary session where world's leading experts discussed differences in recommendations of societies boards. Professor  John Kostis (USA) made a brilliant presentation.

Within the congress took place working meeting on international projects, where Almazov Centre actively participates, like  ESH-CHL-SHOT,  TRIPLE A (Advanced Approach to Arterial Stiffness), ARTEMIS, PROMISES and meeting of hypertension excellence centers on important role of telemedical technologies in blood pressure control.

24^th annual congress on arterial hypertension and cardiovascular prevention in Athenes was a total success that gave scientists opportunity to discuss actual problems and future collaboration.

Next meeting in 2015 will be held in Milan, Italy.
