INTENDED AUDIENCE
This activity is intended for European internists, primary care physicians, hypertension specialists, cardiologists and health care professionals involved with the diagnosis and treatment of patients with resistant hypertension.

PREREQUISITES 
There are no prerequisites.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After participating in this activity, the participant will demonstrate the ability to:

• Define the epidemiology and pathophysiology of resistant hypertension
• Identify causes of “pseudo-resistance,” and outline strategies for achieving timely and appropriate diagnosis of resistant hypertension
• Differentiate between secondary hypertension and resistant hypertension
• Discuss the role of ambulatory or home blood pressure monitoring in the work-up of patients being evaluated for resistant hypertension
• Identify the mechanisms by which renal nerves affect central sympathetic drive and blood pressure control
• Differentiate between afferent and efferent renal nerves and discuss their role in modulating central sympathetic drive
• Review current and investigational interventions that target renal nerves in order to modulate blood pressure
• Outline the scientific evidence for renal nerve ablation as a management strategy for resistant hypertension
• Describe the procedure for percutaneous renal artery sympathetic denervation
• Provide an overview of the safety, efficacy and risk-benefit profile of renal denervation as a treatment for resistant hypertension

COURSE FORMAT
Live sessions are approximately one hour and will be delivered in the form of video webcasts with real-time Q&A from faculty at www.CardioCareLive.com

PRE AND POST TEST AND EVALUATION
Prior to and immediately after each presentation, participants will be presented with a series of multiple choice test questions. After each presentation participants will also be presented with an online activity evaluation. A CME certificate of credit will be issued upon successful completion, which includes a passing grade of 70% or more. Participants must document the amount of time they spent in the activity.

METHOD OF PARTICIPATION
There are no fees to participate in this activity. To receive credit, participants must (1) read the target audience, learning objectives, and disclosure statements, (2) complete the educational activity online, and (3) complete the post-test and activity evaluation. It is estimate that each module will take approximately 1 hour to complete. To receive AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™, participants must receive a minimum score of 70% on the post-test.

HARDWARE/SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
Participants will need a computer with a recent version of Adobe Flash installed, as well as an internet connection sufficient for streaming media.
