Dr. Lyudmila Korostovtseva, Research Fellow Somnology Group Dept. of Hypertension in Federal Almazov North-West Medical Research Centre (St. Petersburg) reports on the conference of Assembly of National Sleep Societies 2015 in Prague

 

Annual conference of Assembly of National Sleep Societies was held on May 1-3, 2015 in Prague.  ANSS is an associated member of the European Sleep Research Society (ESRS). Conference was chaired by Prof. Liborio Parrino (Italy). Co-chairmen were Prof. Marta Goncalves (Portugal), Michaela D. Gjerstad (Norway), Erna Sif Arnadottir (Iceland) and Johan Verbraecken (Belgium).

After welcoming speech by  Liborio Parrino representatives of 32 countries made reports on the main achievements and activities of the national somnology societies. President of the Romanian Oana Claudia Deleanu society was awarded with the Best Report. The Best Logo Award went to Belgian society (BASS, Belgian Association for Sleep Research and Sleep Medicine) – Johan Verbraecken. Activity of the Russian Somnology Society including Youth School and annual Moscow Forum “Sleep” interested European colleagues.

Within the two-day conference were discussed current issues of somnology development in Europe, discipline status, necessity of creation and development of accreditation and certification system as well as closer cooperation between national societies.

Thus, Thomas Penzel (Germany) presented on the system of certified examination on somnology and its principles. His lecture was complements by remarks of  Josep Montserrat about significance of Spanish exams.

Discussion logically led to presentation of the new somnology textbook published by  ESRS in 2014. Its own national manuals on sleep medicine are already published in 26 countries,   J. Verbraecken said. Preliminary he collected information from all national somnology societies.
